Every hour is happy hour hunni
It’s Friday which means happy hour Friday is a go! but let’s be honest every hour is happy hour. I’ve been loving sour cocktails and cherries lately, so today we’re celebrating happy hour Friday with a cherry gin sour. It’s a little bit sour, it’s cherrylicious and, it’s guaranteed to get you dancing on the d floor to shake off any weekday blues that might have built up throughout the week.
How to make a cherry sour cocktail.
All you need is a cocktail shaker and your ingredients and, your good to go hunni. Put all the ingredients into a shaker, dry shake and then wet shake and boom. Strain into a cold glass and let your body be taken over by the cherrylicious.
My Spirit of choice is gin as always so this is a gin cherry sour.
Ingredients
- 45 ml Gin
- 5 Cherries fresh or frozen (extra cherries for decoration)
- 30 ml Cherry liqueur
- 30 ml Lemon Juice
- 30 ml egg white
- 15 ml sugar syrup
This will make you two cocktails, make sure to pour through some kind of strainer so you don’t get cherry and ice lumps in your cocktails.
Tips on how to make the best sour cocktail
Ok, ok, there are 3 things you need to know when it comes to making a sour cocktail.
- Egg white goes in last! The lemon juice will cook the egg white, so add egg white last and then shake it straight away.
- Crack the egg away from your drink, I’ve managed to land the yolk in the drink so many times! no one wants to waste a cockatil!
- Always dry shake any cocktail that uses egg white first and, by dry shake, I mean shake with no ice. Then wap in some ice and wet shake.
Dry shaking first helps the egg white to froth up, so you get that lushes white foam on top of your sour.
Trust me, I once watched a guy shake a whiskey sour for a whole minute because he wouldn’t do the dry then wet shake. He was trying to prove that a dry-shake wasn’t needed (amateur). It was super painful to watch and, all though he did get some foam, it was the wateriest sour I have ever drank.
He did tip me $50 bucks, however, so the pain was worth it.
How to adapt for vodka or whiskey cherry sour.
It’s easy hunni switch out the gin for vodka and wollah everything else is the same.
Personally, I think gin is way better than vodka but I ain’t, judging you if you choose vodka.
What’s that I hear in the back, you prefer a whiskey sour? Well, hunni lucky for you just, switch out the gin for the whiskey. I would choose a bourbon and, you’ve got yourself a cherry whiskey sour.
Happy Friday and, to all my weekend warriors this, one is for you.
Best enjoyed with fellow hunnis, much love Char x

Cherrylicous cherry sour cocktail
This Gin Cherry Sour is the perfect Friday happy hour cocktail to get you in the mood for dancing. It's sour, sweet and cherrilcious.
- Cocktail shaker
- strainer
- 45 ml Gin
- 30 ml Cherry liqueur
- 30 ml lemon juice
- 30 ml egg white
- 15 ml sugar syrup
- 5 cherries (fresh or frozen + extra for garnish)
Add the cherries to the shaker and muddle until you've squished the juice out. Then add all other ingredinents apart from the egg white to the shaker.
If you haven't already prepared your egg white by separating from the yolk do this away from your shaker so you don't get any yolk in the drink. Add to your shaker.
Dry shake for about 20 seconds – that's shaking with no ice. Then stop add ice to the shaker and then shake for another 20 seconds. this is so you'll get dat foam.
Strain and serve into two glasses and garnish with two cherries. Enjoy!
- You can switch out the gin for vodka or whiskey depending on your spirit of choice.
